Number of holiday houses in Norway 2010-2024
The number of holiday houses in Norway increased in the past decade. By 2024, the number of holiday houses peaked at over 450 thousand cottages. Most holiday houses were in the Norwegian county Innlandet as the number amounted to around 88.6 thousand in 2023. Close to it was the number of holiday houses in Viken, reaching 87.6 thousand.
Oppland
In the same time period, the number of holiday houses in Oppland increased constantly. The county is part of the Norwegian inland, having hot summers and cold winters and includes Norway’s two highest mountains Galdhøpiggen and Glittertind. In 2009, there were around 44 thousand holiday houses in the county. This figure grew by over six thousand houses in the following ten years.
Trøndelag
Trøndelag is the central part of Norway and the second largest county. In 1804, it was spilt into the two counties Nord-Trøndelag and Sør-Trøndelag and in 2018, they were reunited. In 2009, there were roughly 28.6 thousand holiday houses in Sør-Trøndelag and about 15.4 thousand houses in Nord-Trøndelag. In general, the holiday house number grew from approximately 44 thousand in 2009 to almost 50 thousand in 2019 in Trøndelag.
